投鼠忌器

投鼠忌器tóu shǔ jì qì

◎投打靠近器物的老鼠怕傷了器物。比喻想打擊壞人而又有所顧忌，怕傷害好人而不敢作為。

英文throw something at a rat,but afraid to break the vase; caution in taking action; burn not your house to rid it of the mouse; spare the rat to save the dishes; those who live in grass house should not throw stones;

◎想擲打老鼠，卻擔心老鼠身旁的器物被擊壞而不敢下手。語本後比喻做事有所顧忌，不敢下手。也作“投鼠之忌”、“擲鼠忌器”。

例證《漢書 · 卷四八 · 賈誼傳》：“裏諺曰：『欲投鼠而忌器。』此善諭也。鼠近於器，尚憚不投，恐傷其器，況於貴臣之近主乎！”《三國演義 · 第二〇回》：“雲長問玄德曰：『操賊欺君罔上，我欲殺之，為國除害，兄何止我？』玄德曰：『投鼠忌器』。”
